Penetrating Oil Wax vs. Polyurethane

Polyurethane is the most common type of finish for hardwood flooring. It is essentially multiple layers of a very thin plastic coating that protects the wood finish from traffic, stains and spills. This type of finish comes in a variety of gloss levels and is relatively inexpensive; however, it is not a “repairable” finish. Penetrating oil wax finishes are comprised of natural oils and hard waxes that penetrate into the woods surface, protecting it from within. This finish is reparable with very little effort and if properly maintained will last indefinitely.
